Weekend....Work

My husband and I bought an old, old house in August last year. In fact, we aren't even sure how old. Records in Tioga County, Pa started in 1901. So, any house built before then is recorded as being built in 1901.

The house was partly flipped when we bought it, but still has a lot of work to be done. It is our "project," so to speak.

In November, a friend (and professional contractor) showed us how to replace windows. We have nine identical windows that needed to be removed (as they were painted shut, but extremely drafty). We began replacing them; one in November, 6 in January and the last two this weekend! The following pictures are in no-way a complete representation of the process, but can show you a little of our small accomplishment!

This is one of the windows in our bedroom....before.

There were terribly inadequate "storms" on many of the windows, which had to be removed first.

These aren't just carpenter pants. My husband has bib overalls, which, at request, he was given for his birthday.

So long old window! Well, not exactly. I have a project in store for these too.

Here is a neat sort-of "juxtaposition." My husband tearing out the old window, reflecting in the new one.

And this is the lovely mess we had to clean-up after. It's a good thing we covered our bed.

Here comes the new window!

Thank goodness it's level! Our "old house" tends to be crooked in some places, which creates a unique challenge for the novice contractors we are.

Almost finished!

This is the final product. Voila!
