Maple Syrup Cream Candy

We made Maple Syrup Candy with my mom and dad last saturday.

My grandparents and great grandparents (on my mother's side) used to make and sell maple syrup products. So, it's something my mom grew up with.

Over the years, my parent's have made their own maple syrup, though not consistently. The last time I remember was for my high school graduation project. We made it my sophomore year, which means we're looking at about seven years ago.

For whatever reason, my dad had the itch to do it this year and making the candy is always a special treat!

A little bit of syrup....doesn't go very far, but it is sooo worth it!

The syrup has to be boiled to 238 degrees (F).

Then it is poured about 1/4 inch thick into bowls and has to cool (warm to touch).

That's when the WORK begins. You have to rapidly stir it until just the right consistency and then drop it onto wax paper.

Seth had never done this before. I think he really enjoyed the results! mmhmmmmm

My dad LOOKS relaxed, but he is intent on the project. He doesn't do anything half-way.

These practically melt in your mouth - SO GOOD!

Some of them had nuts too! Delicious!
