Ladies Retreat

I had the pleasure of going to Pennwood Bible Camp friday night for a Ladies' Retreat. I had such a nice time! We had awesome food, fellowship and teaching.

Joanna Arp was the speaker. She gave us some great illustrations and reminders of God's forgiveness and walking in the way of righteousness. Check out Psalms 1 and 32 to dip into some of what we were blessed with.

There was special music with each of the three sessions we had. I think this was my favorite. So precious!

The camp owners have two weeks of summer camp every year. Last year had a sort of "Western" theme. Some of the props made for interesting shots. Of course, I couldn't help myself.

At the very end, there was time for some cute shots of some of the little guys who were hangin' around.

2011 Senior Picture Promotion

Where does the time go? I'm not sure, but wherever it goes...it's in a hurry. Another school year is almost over!

I hope the year wraps up well for everyone; parents, teachers & students! It's time to start thinking of summer and for the upcoming senior class to get ready. I can't wait for senior pictures!

New Look

Yes, this is still the blog for Megan Hampton Photography! I hope you won't find the new template I chose to be too boring.

I decided to make this change because I was having trouble with the formatting; although, I don't know if this problem will be solved by the change.

I also thought it would be nice to have a simpler style. This way the pictures will be the main attraction AND the blog can go better with some up-and-coming changes (aren't you wondering what I mean?).

Maple Syrup Cream Candy

We made Maple Syrup Candy with my mom and dad last saturday.

My grandparents and great grandparents (on my mother's side) used to make and sell maple syrup products. So, it's something my mom grew up with.

Over the years, my parent's have made their own maple syrup, though not consistently. The last time I remember was for my high school graduation project. We made it my sophomore year, which means we're looking at about seven years ago.

For whatever reason, my dad had the itch to do it this year and making the candy is always a special treat!

A little bit of syrup....doesn't go very far, but it is sooo worth it!

The syrup has to be boiled to 238 degrees (F).

Then it is poured about 1/4 inch thick into bowls and has to cool (warm to touch).

That's when the WORK begins. You have to rapidly stir it until just the right consistency and then drop it onto wax paper.

Seth had never done this before. I think he really enjoyed the results! mmhmmmmm

My dad LOOKS relaxed, but he is intent on the project. He doesn't do anything half-way.

These practically melt in your mouth - SO GOOD!

Some of them had nuts too! Delicious!

Sushi...a recipe for fun

My husband really likes sushi, but only has it on the few occasions we eat out at a chinese buffet. My sister is the first person I know to have made sushi at home. However, our neighbor Scott recently took this same adventure and left my husband's mouth watering. He began to e-mail me recipes.

I don't quite understand it, but I was willing to give it a shot. I cannot stand seafood and that made me apprehensive at first. However, there are many different types and who says you can't just leave some ingredients out?

We made California rolls this past weekend while visiting my parents. Most of them had crab (imitation), but we left it out of a few for me to try.

It was....okay, but made some really NEAT pictures.

Nori is the wrap and can be described more clearly as "seaweed paper," in my opinion. It was actually quite flavorless, but strong smelling.

We had avocado, cucumbers and crab inside; there was rice and sesame seeds on the outside. Love avocado!

Neat empty avocado peel.

Filling it up...

...and rolling it.

It made a LOT more than we though it would.

And you dip it when you eat it. We just used soy sauce, but there are all kinds of options. It wasn't too bad and my husband was happy!

Weeping Cherry Tree

My parent's have a weeping Cherry Tree that was in bloom this weekend. Beautacious!

Do you like Chinese food?

...then you would love the recipe my husband and I use for Cashew Chicken. We stumbled across this recipe in a "30 Minutes or Less" cookbook from Better Homes and Gardens. So, it's quick AND delicious!

The strangest ingredient in the recipe is Oyster Sauce. It smells terrible, but is one of the most important ingredients in the sauce.

The sauce also has soy sauce, brown sugar, water and cornstarch. It is runny to start with, but thickens into a scrumptious, gooey texture.

The recipe calls for chile peppers, but we often have to settle for jalapenos, which are also very delicious. They are both very hot varieties, which you need to use rubber gloves to handle.

Of course you can't have "Cashew Chicken" without cashews.

Doesn't it look like a restaurant dish?

So, my husband told me this last picture was complete corn, but I decided to post it anyway. He is such a good man to pose in it for me.

Weekend....Work

My husband and I bought an old, old house in August last year. In fact, we aren't even sure how old. Records in Tioga County, Pa started in 1901. So, any house built before then is recorded as being built in 1901.

The house was partly flipped when we bought it, but still has a lot of work to be done. It is our "project," so to speak.

In November, a friend (and professional contractor) showed us how to replace windows. We have nine identical windows that needed to be removed (as they were painted shut, but extremely drafty). We began replacing them; one in November, 6 in January and the last two this weekend! The following pictures are in no-way a complete representation of the process, but can show you a little of our small accomplishment!

This is one of the windows in our bedroom....before.

There were terribly inadequate "storms" on many of the windows, which had to be removed first.

These aren't just carpenter pants. My husband has bib overalls, which, at request, he was given for his birthday.

So long old window! Well, not exactly. I have a project in store for these too.

Here is a neat sort-of "juxtaposition." My husband tearing out the old window, reflecting in the new one.

And this is the lovely mess we had to clean-up after. It's a good thing we covered our bed.

Here comes the new window!

Thank goodness it's level! Our "old house" tends to be crooked in some places, which creates a unique challenge for the novice contractors we are.

Almost finished!

This is the final product. Voila!

Friday PIZZA!!!

Growing up, my husband had pizza with his family nearly every friday. I do not get to making it every week, but we do try to have it often. We've gotten the routine pretty down pat.

I've got a Kitchen Aid, which makes the dough part a whole lot simpler. Here it is, all mixed up and starting to rise.

I also love to use my Kitchen Aid to shred cheese with the awesome attachment I got for Christmas. I've posted about its awesomeness before and my feelings haven't changed a bit.

This is a really old cheese grater my mom gave me. It was one of my older relative's at one time. We love to use it for fresh parmesan, which we don't always have for expense sake. Boy is it good when we do!

Here's my husband's pepperoni. It's not that I'm opposed to it, it's just not my favorite.

It's all risen and ready for my hands.

Ahhh! A picture of me? Those don't happen too often because I am usually taking them, but Seth decided to help.

You need to knead the dough.

Seth also took this picture. I tipped it and played with the color. It's one of my favorites from tonight's snaps.

Mmmm....there's that parmesan again.

Seth's pizza....

....and my pizza.

In the oven - this is another of my favorites.

The last step before the best part...

...time to eat.

Love pizza!
